Pottery at Walker House in Prescott

In March, I spent lots of time  chilling in Prescott and hanging out with the lovely Sue Vallom, the director at Walker House and who, by the way, is filled with fun and runs an amazing program.

I'm jealous of the quality programming and  art opportunity Prescott has.

​Which is why, when she asked me to run a pottery class, I was so excited. Being a part of what Sue is planning is truly living the dream: pottery, beautiful scenery, and spreading the love of clay.

The pottery class was a delight, we had 16 students who joined us for a little intro to pottery.

The class was cozy too and I had the chance to chat with all of my pottery students.

We worked on mugs, yarn bowls and decorating with underglaze. For those of you not in the know: underglaze allows for delicate and creative design on your pieces.

​The first time hand building with clay is HARD! It’s a whole new substance and texture and you don’t know where or how to start. But the Walker House Crew were up to the challenge and it paid off! I love how colourful, creative, and fun their pieces turned out.

Because I’m so focused on developing programmes that are fun and exciting for everyone involved I completely forgot to include clear glazing in the programme! It’s a must for any piece that is decorated beautifully. Needless to say, I spent a good amount of time in the following days glazing them perfectly.

Still, the finished items do my new pottery students proud. Beautiful.

If you’ve never been to Walker House then you’re truly missing out. It’s in an incredibly spot and is full of creativity!
