Tiger and Dinnerware

I don’t know what’s going on with the fish tiles, but I do know that this summer was crazy! I had half a thyroidectomy, which means they removed half of my thyroid. I think it was the working half. That was on June 8 when I was still in the middle of trying to complete the Toniata Tiger. Having never worked a mural I didn’t know the extent of the work what that was involved. I put in about 30 hours extra to complete the mural and ended up paying Tom for 10 hours to teach me how to fix the tiles, grout the tiles, clean all the grout out etc. Tom put a frame around it; we had mounted it on three-quarter inch plywood. It looked spectacular. The tiles around the Tiger are silhouettes of the students in the 6,th, 7th and 8th grades. All the while that I was working I was trying to keep my neck straight so I wouldn’t open my incision. As my incision got better I realized my flagging energy was due to my thyroid levels being low. The blood test proved this.

In July & August I produced a dinnerware set for Megan and Trevor’s wedding in which Megan wanted white. I put a clearcoat over the clay and it looks spectacular. I even managed to get the 5 piece 12 set dinnerware done before the wedding in mid-September. I felt like the Dunkin’ Donuts guy from the 80s, except instead of saying “time to make the donuts”, I would say “time to make the dinnerware set”!

At the end of September we started classes; 3 for Developmental Services, in which we could use more students for the kids classes 7 -12 and the teen class - so if you know anybody in Brockville that wants to take pottery give me a call or email. There are 2 adults classes here at home that are creating crazy amazing things. The technician for all the classes and the workshop at Maple View Lodge keeps me on my toes!
