Beginner's PotteryLearn the basics of pottery in a 3-week class, designed to be a snapshot of the whole pottery process:
No experience is necessary, and we encourage all skill levels to join! Available for 15 years+, or with the accompaniment of a guardian. New potter's can expect to bring home about 5-7 pieces. Limited spaces available, with each class accommodating up to 5 students. Cost includes everything: clay, glaze, firings, tool and equipment. |
Class Structure
Each week we will explore a new technique in order to try out all the basics and learn the whole process.
Week 1: Handbuilding Learn how to use templates to make a textured mug and tray from slab. Week 2: Throwing We will jump on the wheel and learn how to make bowls, jugs, vases and maybe even some mugs on the potter's wheel! [ We take a 1 week break in order to prepare for the glaze class] Week 3: Glaze and Decorate Learn how to dip glazes to create unique combinations. When it's all said and done, it takes about 2 weeks until all your pieces are out of the kiln and ready for pickup! |
Above: Various student creations from first-time potters. Learn the basics of making pots on a wheel, and using texture to create functional hand-built pieces.

The beginners class prepares you for our immersive 8 week classes!
We encourage people to take the 3-week Beginner's Class to become acquainted with studio rules and clay techniques, as most of our "8-weekers" are repeat offenders! We love our returning students and like to make sure that everyone is comfortable navigating the studio. Some have been coming for more than 5 years!

What Should I Wear?
You'll end up with clay splattering around and flying off the wheel, you'll forget you have clay on your hands and you'll scratch your head or wipe your face, and you'll almost definitely wipe your hands on your clothes. Which is why I will never advise you to wear your beautiful designer jeans, or jewellery. Here's what to wear to a pottery class... |
