Being part of the Brockville community is a big part of my identity both as Krista and Krista-the-artist. Which is why, every year, I donate bowls to the Empty Bowls Fundraiser in Brockville. All year, Loaves and Fishes provide low-cost eating options to the community. For the fundraiser, Brockville comes together to support. Local chefs provide the soup, local artisans provide the bowls, and local musicians provide the entertainment. It's truly a community effort. Tickets ran at about $25 per head and included lunch and bowl for you to take home. I'm so proud of our community for providing so many bowls to this fab event. You can learn more about the loaves and fishes fundraiser here. This year, my veteran students jumped in and helped with the production. All their help and support made me truly feel the community spirit. A special thank you to students who assisted with throwing and glazing support:
And finally, thank you to the students that attended the Empty Bowls on my behalf. Recently, I've been listening to The Potter's Cast, a podcast for when your formal ceramics education ends and life as an artist begins. But it's not just for potters. If you're interested in art as an artist or simply as an appreciator, then these are the best podcast episodes in my opinion: A Beautiful Life In Clay Episode 388 | iTunes | Website Greg Daly makes amazing pieces, I even have his book. He's such an inspiration. In this podcast you get to know the real him. He plays with lots of visual ideas and uses glaze to make an impact. In the podcast he talks about the value of art and when you know you're ready to sell your work. An Honest Discussion Episode 381 | iTunes | Website
This podcast focuses on Ben Jordan, an American artist and explores his beautiful insights into working and making a living in the world of clay. If you've ever wondered what the buzzwords are or what the political landscape of pottery looks like then this is a podcast to listen to. In the episode, they cover: how to get what you need out of life and how do you make a living, honest and raw explorations about frustrations when making art that's original, and the battle with making a living without compromising your brand or vision. |
